Whatever that banging noise was it made me sit straight up from a sound sleep. Then I heard this low moaning along with gurgling that kept getting louder. It took me a while to remember where I was “oh yeah I live in Minnesota and we are having an extreme cold weather event”. That explains everything.
Now that the Holidays are over, I want to share a favorite memory of mine. We visited my favorite store, I sat on Santa’s lap and shared with him, in a giddy high-pitched voice, all the things I wanted under my tree. This happened just last month when I stopped at Architectural Antiques in Northeast Minneapolis.
2020 is a year many of us will be glad to see move over the horizon. As I write this (12/1/20) there have been 270,000 Covid-19 deaths, 162,913 were confirmed positive today and 13,605,981 Americans have contracted the disease so far. We are in the middle of a presidential transition that at least one person does not believe. At the end of October, 11.1 million people are unemployed, add to that on January 1st unemployment runs out for most and eviction moratoriums are set to expire. Oh, here’s a fun fact you’ll enjoy. New research by the Institute for Policy Studies shows that U.S. billionaires have grown their wealth by a whopping 34% SINCE MARCH.
Last Spring, I showed a home where I literally stepped inside and ran out again coughing and warned the buyer to not go inside. Looking through the open door we could see every surface covered with mold so thick it looked like moss. It took several hours for me to get the smell off me. The highest and best use of that home is to burn it down!
Furnaces, I got you covered... Two articles included today about furnaces; one for hot-water boilers and one for forced air furnaces.
When we bought our home we had to compromise, who doesn’t? For us to get a craftsman bungalow with old world charm, fireplace, first-floor family-room, finished lower level, and two bedrooms on the main floor we had to give up a double car garage and an updated kitchen.
The most common issue with an outdated kitchen is not enough cabinet space and a total lack of countertops. As we talked about options Kate said she could work with what we had, I said there was an easy fix. I want to give up a quick update on the real estate market for the first half of 2020 and some predicting for the end of the year. As you can imagine, the market has been affected by Covid 19 and below is some information about how the real estate industry has adjusted to reduce the risk to home buyers and sellers.
The boat my wife and I lived on for 8 years had a 70-gallon freshwater tank. Depending on which island we were visiting I would sometimes need to take 2 – 7 gallon jerry jugs and carry them up to a mile to get water, no big deal. Carrying them back, well… one gallon of water weighs 7-pounds, oh my aching shoulders, I would carry 98 pounds of water back to the boat. Now that we live in a house, I simply turn on the tap, I love being spoiled.
I get seepage in my basement with every rain of 1 inch or more. Twice, since moving in I have stayed up all night, with a shop-vac in hand, trying to keep water from working its way to the finished side of my basement. Any forecast of rain causes great anxiety. My research shows I could use a French drain.
I've been talking with many people who are either really bored, or truly frazzled depending on if there are young children in the home.
